AFRICA REGIONAL GLOLITTER PARTNERSHIP AND PROJECTS STAKEHOLDERS CONFERENCE

Principal Secretary Geoffrey Kaituko today addressed the issue of Marine plastic litter, a pollutant that poses an imminent threat to oceans, marine life, and to humanity itself. In his remarks, he noted that through global collaboration and strategic partnerships such crisis can be dealt with.

He urged Governments, the private sector, and academia to collaborate to advance technologies that facilitate the recycling and upcycling of plastics, as well as explore alternatives that are biodegradable and non-toxic. In that way people will be transforming waste into a valuable resource and spurring economic growth in the process.

IMO and FAO, through the GLOLITTER initiative are in the frontline for the fight against marine plastic pollution.
