IORIS STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING IN COLOMBO, SRI LANKA

PS GEOFFREY KAITUKO LEADS THE KENYAN DELEGATION ON THE 2ND IORIS COMMITTEE MEETING IN COLOMBO, SRI LANKA

Over 60 government agencies and authorities from the Indo-Pacific region have converged in Colombo, Sri Lanka, for the 2nd IORIS Steering Committee Meeting this week to consider how to move towards a common management of the IORIS system, the Indo-Pacific regional information sharing platform designed to facilitate coordination and exchange of information and respond effectively to maritime security threats, and support sustainable fisheries. 
The meeting, co-chaired by CRIMARIO and the Sri Lanka Navy, is another important milestone for the governance of the IORIS platform, which is supposed to endorse, amongst others, legal documents consolidating the governance structure and establishing rules for the information exchange and for the general use of IORIS to best serve the needs of all users in the Indo-Pacific. 
CRIMARIO is an EU-funded maritime capacity-building initiative established with the ambition of supporting like-minded partners better govern their maritime spaces through information sharing initiatives, capacity building and training, with a focus on Maritime Domain Awareness.
