Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya and Principal Secretary Shipping and Maritime Affairs Shadrack Mwadime at the 6th Association of African Maritime Administrations conference at the Pride Inn Paradise Shanzu Mombasa from 3rd to 5th May 2023.

In the 10 years the maritime opportunity has become a focus area for Africa and your theme for the conference, ‘maritime administrations as pillars for economic development,’ captures this aspirational appropriately and highlights the essential nature of the regulatory and oversight role of maritime administrations in sustaining global trade and utilizing blue economy opportunities for development.

The Maritime conversation in Africa is in reality a discussion about growing intra-Africa trade and by virtue of that a discourse on the African Continental Free Trade Area, which seeks to create a single market for goods, services and movement of people in order to deepen economic integration of the African continent and achieve the Agenda 2063. The AfCTA dream does not happen without efficient, secure and reliable maritime sector.
