Principal Secretary, State Department for Shipping and Maritime Affairs, Mr. Shadrack Mwadime during official visits to Sweden and Denmark this week.

In Malmo, Sweden, the PS, who was accompanied by Eng. Julius Koech from KMA, met and held discussions with the outgoing President of World Maritime University, Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry. He reiterated the Government commitment to continue cooperating with the University to develop technical capacity for Kenya's Maritime Sector.

He also met with the incoming WMU President, Prf. Max Meijia.

He had a chance to meet with a group of Kenyans students pursuing Masters in the University.

 

The PS also visited Denmark, where he met with DG, Danish Shipping, Ms. Anne Strffesen  and   Executive Director Anne Windfeedt in Copenhagen. Top  of the agenda was creation of jobs for Kenyan youth. He informed his host that Kenya was positioning itself to be an exporter of Maritime labour, and is investing heavily in Bandari Maritime Academy to provide quality seafarer  training.

 

He also met with the Director General, Danish Maritime Authority, Mr. Andreas Nordseth and his deputy Ms. Rekke Olufsen. The PS reaffirmed the government's commitment to the implementation of MoU between Kenya and Denmark for bilateral cooperation in promoting maritime sectors in the two countries..

 

He further requested for mutual recognition agreement of certificates under STCW Re. I/10 with Denmark. Mr. Mwadime requested for jobs and training opportunities on Danish Ships.

 

On behalf of the government, the PS drummed up support for the Kenyan and AU candidate for the position of SG  IMO, Amb. Nancy Karigithu, and implored both organizations,- the Danish Shipping and  Danish Maritime authority to support her candidature.
